Academic-Year Orchestras

Each year, over 400 students participate in one of GTCYS’ academic-year orchestras and present nearly 20 concerts throughout the community. Taking place at five venues across the Twin Cities – including the new Philharmonia East location in Maplewood - weekly rehearsals are the heart of GTCYS’ program. Conductors focus on music fundamentals, going beyond the basics to provide a historical context for the music. Rehearsals also provide a social setting where like-minded students can feel supported and work to achieve common goals through music. The orchestras, in order of increasing technical proficiency, are:

Philharmonia East and West (strings only)

Sinfonia

Concertino

Concert Orchestra

Philharmonic

Symphony
