Touring empowers students with musical, social, and cultural opportunities that will shape their lives for years to come.
Renowned for our rich touring history, GTCYS’ biennial international tours for Symphony were reinstated in June 2014 when 78 students toured Spain and performed by invitation at the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance.
The experiential learning aspects of touring empower students with musical, social, and cultural opportunities that will shape their lives for years to come.
2018 Germany, Poland, and Hungary Tour
We are thrilled to announce Symphony’s June 2018 tour destination! The tour will take students on an unforgettable eleven-day journey through Germany, Poland, and Hungary, starting in Berlin, then traveling to Krakow and through the mountains of Poland to Budapest. This Eastern European tour features iconic historical sites, rich cultural opportunities, beautiful landscapes, and stately architecture. Students will perform four concerts, learn about local traditions, experience local music, and visit important historical sites, including the Berlin Wall and Concentration Camps at Auschwitz/Birkenau. Through these experiences, students will develop a new frame of reference for understanding the world, create lifelong friendships, and be inspired to heightened levels of musical performance. 2016 Argentina Tour
In June 2016, we were thrilled to return to South America for the first time in 20 years with Symphony’s Argentina Tour. Symphony students experienced the fascinating history and culture of Argentina on an eight-day journey. With major concerts in Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Santa Fe, plus amazing sights and cultural experiences, it was an incredible adventure for students. Museums, tango lessons, a cattle ranch excursion, and historical sites were just a few of the many highlights. Through these experiences, students developed a new frame of reference for understanding the world and were inspired to heightened levels of musical performance. The robust tour program included John Williams’ The Cowboys Overture, Alberto Ginastera’s Malambo from Estancia, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in its entirety. Made possible by the Minnesota Commissioning Club, an exciting new commission, Into the Wild, by Jacob Bancks rounded out the program. Click here to see the itinerary (PDF) »
